About these Web Pages
These web pages were originally produced in (1995 through 1999) using OS/2 Warp, ver. 4 system editor running on an Insight 100MHz Pentium with 32 MB ram. Simpletext on a Macintosh PowerMac was also used for some of the editing. Webpages were later scripted using Notepad on either an IBM Activa, 450 MHz Intel Pentium III with 98 MB ram or a Dell 450 MHz OptiPlex, both running under Windows 2000 Professional.
Some text and graphics were originally scanned in using an Apple Color Scanner. Images were processed using Ophoto and Graphic Converter. Later, images were taken using a Sony Mavica 91 Digital camera or scanned in with a Mustek 1200LS scanner, with processing done using iPhotoPlus, Version 4.0 and MS Photo Editor. A Visioneer 4400 USB scanner was also used whenever digital images could not be obtained by other means. A HP 7210 All-In-One or a Cannon scanner have been used if needed to produce images. PDF files have been produced using Adobe Acrobat 4.0 and 5.0, and now Acrobat 7.0. Molecular structural formulas were produced using ISIS/Draw ver 2.3 or Rasmol ver. 2.6. Headings are JPG or PNG files made at www.cooltext.com/.
Files and images were originally placed on the web server using IBM ftp-pm and Fetch 2.1, and later Fetch 3.0. WS_FTP Pro, ver 6.5 or FTP using Internet Explorer were both used from 1998 until September, 2000. A network connection is currently being used to transfer files to and from the VA Tech chemistry webserver.
