Career Path
Rob joined Atlantic Research Corporation located in Gainesville, VA as
a summer worker in 1975. Upon graduation from Virginia Tech in 1977, was
hired as a Propellant Development Chemist. In this job he was responsible
for developing solid rocket fuel and gas generator solid propellants for
military and commercial uses. He published eight (8) papers in the area of
solid propellant characterization and development. In 1981, he was promoted
to Chief of Propellant Development Department supervising the activities
of a team of chemists, engineers, and technicians devoted to developing and
characterizing solid propellant, insulation materials, and adhesives. In 1985
he transferred into the Process Engineering Department. The department was
responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring the manufacturing
methods required to produce entire rocket motor systems. In 1992 he took
on the position of Operations Director for the three (3) locations the
company operated in Virginia. Operations involved facility maintenance,
manufacturing, process engineering, quality engineering, environmental,
safety, tool design, and inspection. In 1995, was promoted to Vice President
of Operations for the company's defense operations, which included seven
(7) facilities located throughout the United States. In 2000, the position
was expanded to include responsibility for Program Management for Tactical
missile systems.
