Supporting Chemistry

We Need Your Help!

Whether you are an undergraduate alum, a graduate alum, or simply a friend of VT Chemistry, we need your help to continue the tradition of excellence for which the VT Department of Chemistry is known. Any monetary contributions you make will be used to support deserving students, purchase essential equipment, or extend our research activities through other means (e.g., invited speaker travel and conference travel support for students).

How You Can Help

No matter how large or small, your financial contributions will help to ensure a bright future for the department. Private or corporate contributions will be used to attract the best students, faculty, and staff—the people who make a department great. There are a number of ways to contribute to VT Chemistry:

Gifts of cash
Gifts of securities
Utilizing any gift matching program your employer offers
Remembering VT Chemistry as part of your estate planning
…and others

Support the Chemistry General Fund or a Named Endowed Fund!

Your contributions to the Department of Chemistry General Fund will be used to support the seminar and colloquium program, curriculum enhancements, personnel recruiting, student and faculty travel, and a variety of other activities.  In short, your unrestricted gift to the Chemistry General Fund will help to foster a thriving intellectual community of faculty and students.  Alternatively, we encourage you to target your donation to three special endowments:  The Friends of Larry Taylor Chemistry Endowed Fund, the James P. Wightman Lecture Series Excellence Fund, or the Harold McNair Endowed Fund.

Create a Chemistry Scholarship or Endowment

A scholarship or endowment in your name or the name of a special loved one is a gift that will live forever. You can help our students to become tomorrow’s leaders in industry, academia, and medicine. The Department of Chemistry offers scholarships to both undergraduate and graduate students based on academic potential, academic performance, and financial need. Endowments in support of faculty can help us recruit and retain outstanding professors.

For more information on how to create a scholarship for a deserving chemistry student or any other endowment, please contact Jim Tanko, Chair of the Chemistry Department, at jtanko@vt.edu or 540-231-6687.

You are also encouraged to contact Jenny Orzolek, Director of Development for the College of Science, at (540) 231-5643 or via jorzolek@vt.edu for additional information about these funds or to learn more about other ways to give.  We thank you in advance for your support!
