Chemistry Outreach Program

The Mobile Chemistry Laboratory (MCL) is an outreach project of the Department of Chemistry, the College of Science, the Division of Outreach and International Affairs, and the Virginia Tech Foundation. It is a self-contained unit that carries chemical instrumentation, computers, and chemical equipment to high schools in Virginia that lack adequate laboratory facilities. The curriculum used on the MCL has been developed in concert with high school chemistry teachers and the MCL team. It supports the Chemistry Standards of Learning of the Commonwealth of Virginia.

The MCL program was placed on hold for the 2004-05 academic year because of funding cuts from the state. The ChemKit program continued in AY 2004-2005 because of ongoing federal support. Both programs are now on hiatus.

Site links for the MCL and the ChemKit Programs are still active.
