Hyades

Hyades cluster.
Hyades is a 24-node cluster equipped with an Infiniband switch for fast internode communication. Each node is an Hewlett-Packard DL140 G3 containing 2 dual-core Intel Xeon processors and 4 GB of RAM (for a total of 96 cores and 96 GB of RAM).
- Why Hyades? Hyades is the nearest open cluster of stars. Our cluster is also ``open'', i.e., it uses open-standards commodity hardware and will be used to run and develop our open-source software.
- Why Infiniband? Infiniband is an open high-performance switched fabric interconnect standard. It is used in a number of TOP 500 supercomputers (including Virginia Tech's System X). Infiniband network has low latency and high throughput needed for demanding computational chemistry applications such as MPQC.
