Who can request a poster to be printed?
Any member of the Virginia Tech community. This includes faculty, staff, and grad students from the Chemistry Department and any other department affiliated with VA Tech.
How much does it cost?
The Chemistry Department has a Canon ImagePROGRAF, which is a wide format color photo printer. The default paper width is 36" and the height can range from a couple of inches to several feet since the paper is on a continuous roll.
The standard poster will be printed on 36” Wide Satin Finish Photo Paper.
In-Department (Paid by an in-department account): $10 per 36″ x 60″ poster
Out-of-Department: $30 per 36″ x 60″ poster
We do offer paper width of 42” and 44” for an additional $10 charge.
We offer a glossy finish paper as well in all 36”, 42” and 44” as well for an additional $10 charge.
How do I setup a PowerPoint document to be printed with the Canon ImagePROGRAF?
After starting a new document in PowerPoint go to File > Page Setup
Then make the following changes…..
For Portrait Posters (tall posters): For Landscape Posters (wide posters):
Width = 36 inches Width = up to 60 inches
Height = up to 60 inches Height = 36 inches
After that, use PowerPoint as you normally would. Make sure any graphics you use are high enough resolution so they don’t appear pixelated when printed at such a large scale. An easy way to check is to zoom in to 100% and make sure that the images are acceptable. Once you are satisfied that your slide is perfect, convert it to a PDF file.
NOTE: If a typo is found after printing and you want to reprint the poster, you will be charged full price for the reprint.
How do I submit a print request and payment?
There must be an ISR entered in HokieMart in order for us to print your poster. (ISR stands for “Interdepartmental Service Request.” If you do not have HokieMart access, then you will need your faculty advisor to enter an ISR to pay for your poster). The Supplier is “VT Chemistry Poster Printing”. In the External Notes box please indicate the size you want the poster printed, the date you need the poster printed by and a contact name with email address. Then, make sure you attach the poster file in PDF format under External Attachments.
When prompted for account number (not fund), please enter 1244R.
Finally, review the HokieMart order and click Submit. Once submitted, an email notification will be sent to us letting us know a printing order has been received. When we receive the PO, we will print the poster, and notify you when it is ready. Posters can be picked up in 480 Davidson Hall during regular office hours.
THE ISR MUST BE SUBMITTED AND PO RECEIVED 24 HOURS BEFORE REQUESTED PICK UP TIME.
