Class Information

Force-add Policy

All available lab seats are listed on the timetable and the Chemistry Department does not force-add students beyond the room capacity limits set by safety and fire codes. If you do not receive a class through course request, monitor the timetable on Hokie SPA now through the first week of classes. You may be able to find an available seat and add the course to your schedule. If you are unable to find a seat in a lab prior to the deadlines listed below, please follow the guidelines to request a force-add at that time.

The opening of additional course sections depends on the resources and funding that the Chemistry Department receives. There is no guarantee that we will have sufficient spaces for everyone wanting high-enrollment classes and labs. If it seems you'll be unable to add a needed course, please contact your academic advisor to review your options for adapting subsequent semesters' courseloads.

Students in University Studies or other majors who wish to take the chemistry majors section of a course should email Anna Hawthorne at chemadv@vt.edu to discuss this option.

Chemistry majors who are having scheduling trouble to enroll in required chemistry classes should contact Anna at chemadv@vt.edu for assistance.
